Daniel and Angélique, our kind organizers, have prepared a program oriented towards art and history crafts.
Saturday, June 8
The Langres region houses two trades that have supported generations of families: Basketry and cutlery. After the traditional picnic, we visit the Maison de la Vannerie in Fayl-Billot. We are witnessing a basketry demonstration. The dexterity and speed of execution force admiration. The afternoon continues with a guided tour of Langres. The highlight of the afternoon will be the demonstration of the arquebus shooting, of which Daniel has praised us a lot! Full of emotions, laughter and anecdotes, the day ends with a cheese tasting... of Langres!
Sunday June 9th
Another art profession in danger of disappearing is cutlery. We visit in Biesles one of the last cutler craftsmen. Able to repair any type of knife whatever its condition, he also manufactures a handmade collection that he offers for sale. We witness in the middle of machines that are emblematic of a very distant past, some specificities of his work (grinding, polishing,...) The morning continues at the cutlery museum in Nogent. A historical film shows us how to make a pair of scissors. The blacksmith who is filmed simply commands respect. The exhibition traces several centuries of the history of the knife and its associated objects. And this for all uses both the art of the table and those used in medicine. Some utensils are cold in the back. The weekend ends at the restaurant "Le Commerce" in Nogent.
